Layering Tops and a Black Suede Skirt

Hi, friends! Reporting here with a full belly and a happy heart. Although I decided to stay home from Thanksgiving celebrations this year (Sam brought me home all the goods), I think that it allowed me even greater space and time to appreciate the holiday and reflect on what I am thankful for. I used the day alone to declutter my brain from the stress and chaos of the last few weeks that have been weighing on me.

My Thanksgiving consisted of finishing 'Big Magic' by Elizabeth Gilbert on the couch (which I'm already considering re-reading), spending time outside with Oliver, watching a 'Friends' Thanksgiving marathon, drinking hot tea, and tidying up our house. It sounds very un-glamorous and, admittedly, a little bit selfish, but it was exactly what I needed. "You cannot pour from an empty cup" - this mantra has been on my mind lately and I'm trying to put self-care as a priority.

I was able to rest on Thursday and Friday which was perfect because it prepared me for an exciting weekend with 2 fun projects. We spent Saturday in the Meritage Jewelers showroom trying on wedding bands, looking at anniversary gifts, and drinking cocktails at their diamond bar. It was nice to get pampered for a few hours while hanging out with all of you on LIVE (my very first one!)

Then, on Sunday we had a gorgeous styled shoot with the most amazing team, including BARCS Animal Shelter, Social Graces Events, Mattie Riley Photography, Fleur De Lis Florist, Makeup by Farren, All Things Beautiful by Brooke, Bare Ink Co., Christopher Schafer Clothier, TLC Bridal, J'Adorn Designs, Furever and Fur Always, and two blogger babes, Ashley Clayton with NeverBeenSo, and Michelle Schienle with CrohnicallyBlonde, and their husbands. We spent the day getting glammed up and shooting in Patterson Park with the sweetest dogs from BARCS Animal Shelter. The dogs even had floral collars and leashes! I just shared a quick sneak peek on our Facebook page

All in all, I'd say that we had a very successful holiday break. I hope you did as well! I want to know if you took advantage of the amazing sales during the Cyber Weekend and got started on your holiday list - tell me what you snagged on my latest Instagram post!

Now, let's talk about this look. It's one of my favorites so far this season because it's cozy, chic, and perfect for the crazy temperatures. It was originally going to be my Thanksgiving look, but as I mentioned I decided to stay in my fuzzy robe for that one instead. I've been wearing this outfit on the weekends downtown while shopping or meeting friends for lunch.

I didn't want to choose favorites here, but I must say that berets have become my most loved trend this year. Can you blame me? They are absolutely gorgeous and so feminine. Every time I add one to an outfit, I immediately feel a French accent coming on. Anyone else? I almost even started this post out with "BONJOUR", but then I thought it miiiight be a little confusing. Lol. Although I am still reporting from good, old Baltimore, this look really does take me right to the base of the Eiffel Tower in my mind.

The piece that inspired this look originally is this gorgeous black suede, studded skirt by NastyGal. I discovered it in the wrong section of a consignment shop last month and immediately when I tried it on, I fell in love. It is the perfect style, and has that little bit of edge that works well for dressing it up or down. Because I am petite, I have a hard time finding skirts that don't make me look like I'm drowning in them whether in length or size, but this skirt was such an amazing fit from the get-go. It definitely makes me want to look more at the NastyGal selection for this Winter.

On the top, I paired a grey long sleeve shirt with a simple scarf and a cozy over-sized coat. On the bottom, I styled my black suede skirt with sleek pointed toe pumps. And to finish off the look, I wore my favorite cream beret with my new RayBan round metal sunglasses.
