DIY Mama and Babe Denim Jackets

DIY Mama babe denim jackets

Even before finding out that I was pregnant, something that I have always known about myself is that I would 100 percent be “that Mom”. You know the one. The Mom that insists on matching Mommy and me outfits, monogrammed cashmere sweaters for the holidays, and… who could possibly pass up a crystal-encrusted necklace spelling out her child’s name? Certainly not me; let’s just clear that up real quick.

One thing you can be sure of is that you will find me in the park wearing my DIY “Mama” denim jacket, chasing my mini-me around the playground (you’ll know who he is because he’ll have on the matching “Babe” denim jacket). I’ll be the pyscho with 5 million organic grass-fed snacks and French parenting book spilling out from her rose gold stroller that he wants no part of.

I’m only half-kidding, okay?

For the past few years, I have seen these matching “Mama” and “Babe” denim jackets floating around the internet. Once I hit my second trimester of pregnancy, I decided that I didn’t want to wait any longer to get my hands on a pair. Unbeknownst to me, these jean jackets apparently cost an arm and a leg.

Don’t get me wrong, I want some pretty ridiculous baby stuff that is way more expensive than it actually should be (take this $1,500 stroller, for example). However, when it comes to clothing, I’ve figured out over the years what cost is justified and what is not. From first glance, I knew that I could recreate these jackets extremely easily and on a budget.

In total, I spent less than $80 to make BOTH jackets (as opposed to $128 just to buy one). This DIY project took me about 5 minutes to complete and, I must say, I’m very pleased with the end result. I already wore mine to the apple orchard a couple weekends back and got a ton of compliments just walking around.

Bonus points for ya’ll: the denim jackets I used are incredible quality, still on sale, and in stock! I’m linking the 3 materials you need to make your own DIY Mama and Babe denim jackets below.

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. Measure and plan where you want the patch to go on each jacket.

  2. Using directions from patches, iron onto the back of denim jackets. Let cool. Enjoy!

*If you want to sew these patches on instead, I believe that would work just as well.
