17 DIY Projects for First Time Homebuyers We Are Obsessing Over

We are officially 1 month into homeownership and it has truly been a whirlwind. There are so many unique challenges we weren’t expecting alongside some of the greatest moments of joy and gratitude.

It definitely feels surreal that this home is actually ours and the idea of making permanent changes to things like the floors, kitchen cabinets, and light fixtures is exciting and overwhelming all at once.

Sam and I made a long list of do-it-yourself projects that we want to complete in this house over the next few months. I think the mindset that has been helping us most is reminding ourselves that we can only tackle one project at a time.

At the moment, that project is painting every square inch of the house to make it look fresh and fit our aesthetic better. In my opinion, it is the easiest and least expensive way to transform a space entirely.

Aside from getting our floors upstairs redone by professionals, we have decided to take on the remaining home projects ourselves to save money and add our own personal touch to the house along the way.

Sam and I are both extremely interested in home design; he tends to be more of the handyman and muscle, and I am the one who is detail-oriented and obsessed with aesthetics (as if you can’t tell already from my Instagram).

As a Pinterest fanatic myself, I have been steadily saving inspiration for our home since I found out that we would be moving. Therefore, the majority of these DIY projects like the sliding barn door, walk-in wardrobe, painted cabinets, temporary wallpaper, and farmhouse sink are on our own to-do list for 2020.

So, without further ado, if you have recently found yourself decorating a new home, in need of a refresh, or are simply obsessed with Joanna Gaines-style tutorials, this post is for you!

I am sharing 17 DIY projects for first time homebuyers that we are obsessing over, from shiplap to faux wood beams, pantry organization, laundry room folding tables, and more. Enjoy!
