Neutral Christmas Home Decor Ideas

There’s nothing like a pandemic to make you realize how much you appreciate the simple things in life like being at home, lighting a fresh evergreen candle, and snuggling up by the fireplace to watch a classic movie (my favorite at the moment is ‘Notting Hill’).

If this year taught us anything, I hope that it is to realize what (and who) truly matters. When all of the sparkly distractions like fancy trips, festivals, and fashion weeks disappear, are you left with a life that you love? I think this season of change has been good for us in some ways because it has given us permission to slow down, get back to our roots and our purpose, and be more present with the ones we love.

Needless to say, this holiday season is like no other. For me, it feels more meaningful and less rushed. I’m not sure if that has to do with the baby squirming around in my belly at the moment, the unexpected twists and turns of this year, or if I would have felt this way regardless.

The meaning of the holidays can sometimes get lost between the stressful trips to spend every dime you have on last-minute gifts and the endless holiday parties that make you feel like you won’t be able to catch your breath until after January 1st. What I realized is that neither of those things are memories that I cherish when I look back on the years.

The moments that mean the most to me are the Christmas mornings at my parent’s house eating my Step Dad’s famous breakfast sandwich (fried egg, waffle, refried beans, muenster cheese, and maple syrup) that he only makes once a year. It’s watching ‘A Christmas Story’ with my grandparents on the couch while they drink their Bailey’s (with a splash of coffee), and looking through all of our family ornaments on my Mom’s favorite tree.

The memories I cherish most are almost always made at home which is why I think that having a space that you love and feel comfortable in is so important, now more than ever.

While we are currently still getting settled into our first home, I am slowly bringing in decor that is thoughtful, high-quality, and fits into our overall aesthetic. Most pieces that I am choosing can transition between the seasons, with a few statement items here and there to make us feel festive without going overboard.

I shared on Instagram stories the other day while decorating our dining room that my biggest tip while shopping for holiday decor is to stick to neutral colors like white, black, and tan. As fun as the brightly colored aisles look at Hobby Lobby and Target, I steer clear from anything that I feel like is overly flashy or distracting.

For Christmas in particular, I am a sucker for simple greenery, minimalist wall decor, cozy stockings, and woven knit throws.

I know that it can be difficult to shop for decorations for Christmas that fit the vibe of your home without spending hundreds (or thousands). On the other hand, you don’t want your beautiful, classy home to look like an ad for Party City with bright red and green clutter filling your space.

That’s where I come in. We are tackling both challenges today with minimal, modern inspiration for the stylish woman who wants to cozy up at home and cherish this season without spending a fortune.
